I've swallowed the iron moon

And ... now for a simple outfit post. :) This one feels 90s to me, mostly because of the flannel shirt and jelly sandals, but also because I'm currently (finally) watching The X Files all the way through. It's been fun watching it all these years later, because I actually have pretty vivid memories of it from when I was super young. My mom watched it back in the day and it clearly left an impression on me.

The flannel shirt is thrifted and the dress is from Gap. I've had the sandals so long, I don't remember where they're from. :/ That's it for now, but I hope anyone who does happen to be reading this is doing well. I'll see ya next time. (The title of this post is from Iron Moon by Chelsea Wolfe.)

Find your weakness, kill it

Here's one last ode to summer. The dress is from French Connection and the crochet sweater underneath is thrifted.

As for real life, I'm just workin' and workin', saving up for a pretty big move (which was originally planned for a while ago, but oh well) and being creative.

Inspiration wise, not much has changed. I've been crushing pretty hard on Brody Dalle, though. Apart from being awesome and inspiring, her voice is just incredible. It's as angry as it is beautiful and as broken as it is ferocious. When she screams, it feels like a firework exploding in the middle of an endless black sky. The first time I heard her scream "Don't GO!" during The Hunger, chills ran up and down my spine. By the third time, I had tears in my eyes and didn't even know why.

All of her work is stellar, whether it's with The Distillers, Spinnerette, or most recently, as a solo artist. It's all awesome and it's all Brody. It has also meant a lot to me during a time I needed it most. I made a mini mix of some of my favourites by her from over the years, as a gateway of sorts for the uninitiated. There's a couple Bikini Kill songs in there as well, since I needed at least 8 songs for 8Tracks. If you'd like, you can listen to it here. (The image is by Madeleine Machold.)

The Distillers - The Hunger
The Distillers - Hall Of Mirrors
Bikini Kill - RIP
Spinnerette - Ghetto Love
Spinnerette - The Walking Dead
Bikini Kill - New Radio
Brody Dalle - Rat Race
Brody Dalle - Blood In Gutters

Just let it happen

So, today was the most quintessentially beautiful fall day. It reached the high 70s and the sky was overcast, but with the sun shining through on the grey clouds from one direction. I even saw a rainbow when it rained briefly during my afternoon coffee run. :)

Here's a full shot of the dress from the previous post. I just bought it at my favourite thrift shop and am pretty much obsessed. Underneath it is a sweater, with a confetti-like texture, which I bought at another thrift shop years ago. This is how I actually looked when I wore the outfit out (with my hair up and glasses on, as per usual).

Both pieces of jewelry were gifts. I also just made a new playlist on 8Tracks, which is kind of a 70s-esque electronic/pop/rock hybrid thing. All I know, really, is that the songs sound good together, haha. Click here if you wanna listen to it. (The image is by artist Nick Bantock.)

Tame Impala - Let It Happen
Marina And The Diamonds - Froot
Roky Erickson - Night Of The Vampire
Ghost - Body And Blood
La Roux - Cover My Eyes
Daft Punk - Get Lucky
Run The Jewels - Angel Duster
FKA Twigs - Two Weeks
Elton John - Funeral For A Friend / Love Lies Bleeding
Queens Of The Stone Age - ... Like Clockwork

Gonna rule my world again (Chapter III)

~

Well, one thing's for sure: this is bound to be more riveting than Chapter II. ;) Seriously though, life is good and I have a lot going on right now. One day, years from now, when I look back on these past couple years, I'll understand exactly why they unfolded as they did and how they've made me a stronger and wiser person. For now, I just couldn't be happier to feel as on fire as I do.

I've been drawing and working on designs again as well, which I can't wait to share here and elsewhere. In other words, it's back to business. And I'm here to make things happen. Or in the words of badass Brody Dalle, "I'm gonna cut the cord to the man who holds me down under him / Gonna cut the cord, set me free, rule my world again." Thank you to anyone who's still around to read this. :)
